I'M NEW

SO I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS

Do I have to be a member to attend worship or participate in activities and programs?

Of course not!  We think we have a very special faith community and welcome others to be a part of it.  Join us for worship on Sunday.  Or check us out by attending another activity or program. Take all the time you need to get to know us. We want you to feel at home here.  If or when you are ready to become a member, look for our Inquirers Classes which are offered in the Fall and the Spring.  That will be your opportunity to learn even more about Federated and the UCC and to meet others considering membership.

What is the preaching like?

So glad you asked.  Challenging and inspirational messages are an integral part of our Sunday worship services.  We are kind of known for it.  First-time visitors often comment on the thought-provoking sermons.  We don't shy away from difficult issues.  And we welcome doubters.  God is still speaking and we are still listening.

What kind of music do you have?

A little bit of this.  A little bit of that.  We like to change it up to keep things fresh.  You will find more traditional music at our 10am service and more spirited music at our 11:30am RISE to Shine service.  We suggest you try both to see what you like.  We also have a Bell Choir and a Children's Choir and we welcome anyone with a musical gift, singers and musicians alike, to contact Joshua Konow, our Director of Music Ministries, to see where you can help to make a joyful noise.

What do you believe?

Believing in Jesus Christ, the interpreter of God to humankind, we accept his teachings as the guiding principles of our lives and consecrate ourselves and our Church to their fulfillment. We therefore join and covenant, one with another, to worship, work and serve together, that we may express through our Church and our individual lives the love and faith taught by Jesus Christ.  In a nutshell.

What about my kids?

On Sunday mornings, we offer child care during both services, in the lower level classrooms for infants through Pre-Kindergarten aged children. This includes free play, a Bible story, related craft, and snack.

There is Sunday School for children in Kindergarten through eighth grade at the 10 am service.  Children (K and up) start in the Sanctuary with their families and are dismissed together to go to Sunday School. Children (K-5th grade) can be, or should we say must be, picked up from the second floor of the educational wing following the worship service.

Our building can be very confusing to the uninitiated.  Don't hesitate to ask someone if you need help finding your way around.  We are a friendly bunch.

How does this church serve the community?

Following Jesus' example of love and justice, we seek to transform lives, including our own, through compassionate response, caring relationships, advocacy and active service.  We sponsor a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack.  We provide space for a whole bunch of weekly 12-step groups.  We run a monthly soup kitchen at our sister church in Ohio City.  We support a group of women in Nicaragua who are helping to support their families with a growing textile business.  And there's more.
